We’re continuing this newsletter to show what building a football app in public looks like. In return for a few minutes of time each week, we’ll give you our best stories & insights from the world of football + tech + startup. Done right, this will bring us closer to our goal of making Nine98 the world’s largest amateur football community, with 'The Nine98' at its core. We’re targeting an MVP release in early Q4 2024 but there’s plenty of value on the table right now. So why wait? You can expect a mix of product updates; storytelling; interviews and content from top players and industry leaders; and rewards because we can. As we’ve learned from web3, it doesn’t really mean fuck all if we don’t bring our people with us.

What's New at Nine98 This Week

Development Updates:

• Design Insights: Week Three of showing off some more design pieces!
  
  This week, we're excited to reveal the initial screens for the 'Jersey/Shirt Creation' feature in the MVP of the Nine98 app. This tool will allow you to design your own custom shirts, bringing a personal touch to every game. As you build connections with friends and teammates, you'll be able to swap jerseys—just like the pros.
  
  

  

• As part of the Nine98 experience, we’re introducing a unique and interactive feature—Jersey Swaps. This feature allows you to create and customise your own digital jersey, adding a personal touch to your football identity. After each game, you can swap jerseys with your friends or teammates, marking memorable moments and building connections in a way that goes beyond the pitch. Whether you’re celebrating a hard-fought victory or just enjoying a casual kickabout, the jersey swap feature lets you share and cherish these moments with others in the Nine98 community.

• Social Media Highlights: This week, we've rolled out a series of ad-style videos that delve deeper into the types of users we're targeting. If you’ve been following us on social media, you’ve likely come across these direct and engaging pieces aimed at welcoming new footballers into the Nine98 community!
  

  We’ll continue this approach over the coming weeks, gradually revealing more development progress—moving beyond just app designs. We’ll also keep showcasing our behind-the-scenes efforts and ‘Building in Public’ ethos through our casual and fun weekly update videos. And of course, we’ll stay on top of our sponsored players' performances at Brockenhurst, alongside our weekly Premier League game predictions.

Community Spotlight

Highlighting Our Community:

• The Brockenhurst boys were back in action twice this week. First, they battled to a 3-3 draw against the Poppies, with Ben Hall still sidelined due to injury and JT making appearances off the bench. In their second match, a cup fixture, JT started and played 60 minutes before the game went to penalties, where the Badgers triumphed to advance to the next round! Well done, lads! We’re excited to follow their journey as the season progresses.

• FPL Highlights! This weeks top team managed 89 points.
  Of course, that triple captain helped - not bad!

Looking Ahead:

Listen, we're all about embodying the spirit of the amateur player, and we're planning to bring this energy to life through some exciting guerrilla marketing in the near future. As we gear up to onboard millions of players over the next 12 months, we’re already thinking about where we should run it back and throw some community events. We started with events & they are an experience that brings our community together by blending competitive football with a festival-like atmosphere. Imagine pop-up events in major cities, spontaneous matches in iconic urban spaces, and targeted advertising campaigns that speak directly to the heart of every football player. When the time is right, we want to hit the ground running and make Nine98 the name on every player’s lips. So, where should we go first? London, Manchester, New York, or maybe even Miami?
